1) Editorial

Hi [FIRSTNAME],

With the beginning of Spring and Summer also brings with
it the Communion celebrations. A few Sunday´s ago was a full
day with beautifully attired children being presented at
Church together with their families and friends. Afterwards
they headed out to the local restaurants to enjoy food and
festivities. The cost is enormous and they are very proud of
the event and even the run up. I have mentioned before of
"viewings" of the festero outfits and wedding outfits in the
homes during the week before the event. Communions are no
different and our neighbours not only showed the daughter´s
outfit but the entire house has been "arranged" for these
visits. The local florist´s talents were employed to place
stategic arrangments throughout the home and all the gifts
brought to the little girl were also displayed in her room.
On the morning of the Communion Grandma was busy preparing
the carpet of leaves, petals and flowers in front of the door
where the photographs were to be taken. This is quite
traditional and you will often see these carpets outside a
number of houses.

Our son managed his first trip to the Emergency unit at the
local hospital a few weeks back. Not bad considering he is
7 years old and his Uncle seemed to live in the A&E unit as
a child. The school phoned me at 2.30pm one Friday afternoon.
He had hurt his foot and wanted the local clinic to just have
a look. He did have a tetanus last year so I wasn´t too
worried but I could see their concern. We collected him at
2.45pm drove up to the local clinic where the doctor took a
look. He decided that he´d prefer for the hospital to check
it out. So back in the car and up the motorway to the
hospital on a Friday afternoon. I wasn´t relishing the
thought of sitting for hours in an A&E unit on a Friday
afternoon but never mind. We gave the appropriate details
over and was told to sit at the other end of the waiting
room. We then found that there is a paedraitric section.
Within 5 minutes a nurse came and looked at our son´s foot
while we were in the waiting room and said that the
paediatrician was on the way. Another 5 minutes and we were
in the consultation room. Our son was actually in no pain and
full of beans, chatting away to the doctor. She thought it
highly amusing looked at his foot and announced that as he
had had a tetanus recently there was little more they could
do especially as he was obviously not in pain. We were to
keep an eye on it though and we were on our way. We were
back home for 4.45pm and apart from the relief of nothing
too untoward happening, amazed at the speed and
professionalism from not only the school but the clinic and
the hospital. I´m not superstitious but luckily this incident
didn´t occur on Friday 13th - although if you didn´t know, in
Spain it is Tuesday 13th which is supposed to be unlucky!

Well there is plenty going on around here at the moment which
you will see from this month´s newsletter. The WIBC Birthday
Party at the Javea Parador was a great success if you managed
to go and this weekend sees the 2nd Moraira Music Festival,
Sunday 12th June 7pm start, in conjunction with the Moraira
Moors and Christians fiesta celebrations. So if you can go do
enjoy yourselves. One word of advice - if you do go to the
Moors & Christians in Moraira it may be worth taking your own
fold up chair if you want to rest those aching feet! On that
note I will leave you and look forward to e-seeing you next
month.

Cheers, Suzanna.

ii) Jade Fashion Gallery.

Jean Carrington opened Jade in 1990, just off the main
Gabriel Miró, Calpe and offered a small selection of labels,
including Jacques Vert, Frank Saul, Gold by Michael H. Joseph
Ribkoff and Gerry Weber.

The collections were different to Spanish fashions and soon
attracted a lot of interest from locals and tourists. The
Spanish tend to dress very smart and like exclusive one off
pieces that they are prepared to pay a lot of money for. The
labels Jean stocks stand out from what the Spanish labels
generally offer, and therefore sell well.

3) Women in Business Club Birthday Party

Hello [FIRSTNAME],

Brief Report by Karla Darocas

In brief - The Parador was a magical setting for a night of
Cava, Canapes and Art. The collection of members mingling
with the mix of invited guests proved to be a wonderful
night of networking.

Special celebrity guest - Paul Melba - was a funny and caring
human being. He really shared some light and insights with us
and our guests.

Of course, as usual, John Anthony on guitar and jazzing
vocalist Johanna Spanjerberg - were absolutely fantastic.
Their music really gave the event the perfect purrrr...
shall we say!

The artists on representation were all amazing. It is good to
see a community of artists reaching out to help the community
they serve. I am not sure what they expected - but I hope
they realize that you only get out of this universe - what
you put into the universe. It was a joy to have them join
our celebrations and to meet them all on a community level.

However, nothing beats stronger than the heart of a
volunteer, and our WIBC volunteers must have the biggest
hearts in all the world! They handled themselves with a
generous degree of diplomacy and tack. It is not easy pulling
together an event, hosting the event and smiling for hours on
end. It takes great tenacity and courage. However, together,
their efforts have raised the bar and added yet another
checkmark to our ever growing list of achievement.

In conclusion, a thrilling event that will go down in the
history books. Big hugs and thank yous all around. You ladies
know how to rock the world, with your love and smiles and
support. The energy was electric!
