Hi,
This month sees the Peñon de Ifach in the limelight as the 5th
annual competition is launched.(Full details below). We have
also had another spring clean of the site. The screensaver page
http://www.costablanca-netguide.com/screensaver.html has been
updated and now is easier to navigate and the requisite
of filling in a form for the free version has been removed. Also
the full version which features the soundtrack and longer display
times has been discounted by 60.00% and is now only €7 EUROS.
This is in preparation of the launch of Version 2 later this
year. All present registered owners of version 1 will
automatically receive a discount voucher for this new version
before it's launch. You will notice changes all over the site
in the next week or two and depending on how long it takes we
may send out a special update mid-month to let you know what's
happening.
The weather on the Costa Blanca has been particularly bad the
last few days with the normally pleasant Spring
interrupted with torrential rain. Normally dry rivers beds are
almost at bursting point. Hopefully all should be back to normal
soon.

1) Peñon de Ifach competition.
Announcement from the Mayor of Calpe

The Peñón de Ifach is without a doubt one of the most singular
landscapes of the Comunidad Valenciana. The fact that it's
situated in Calpe only increases the intimate relationship that
the Calpe people and all those that live here, feel for this
enormous rock. But besides being all obvious landscape symbol,
the Peñón de Ifach has also become an authentic trade mark of
many another phenomenon. This formidable isthmus has turned into
an ecological and environmental exponent and at the same time a
tourist attraction a point of union of the different cultures
that throughout Calpe's history have been established at the
foot of the Peñón, as well as the diverse nationalities that
nowadays are living in Calpe. Because of the meanings that Ifach
has, I think this is the opportunity to create the
"Peñón de Ifach" prize for all those works that by means of the
media and investigation, transmit all this flow of themes that
help to forge a better way of life. It's only left for me to
encourage you to take part in this imaginative competition that
we are organising for the fifth year running.

1.- THEME.EL PEÑÓN DE IFACH, SYMBOL OF THE COSTA
BLANCA, NATURE AND TOURISM is the established theme. In this
case, anything referring to its municipal surroundings:
THE VILLAGE OF CALPE, SCENERY, TRADITIONS, CULTURE, FESTIVALS,
GASTRONOMY AND CRAFTWORK will be considered.
2.- MANUSCRIPTS AND ORIGINALS.
·All articles and reports published in newspapers or
magazines, or broadcast on radio or television from any
nation, produced in any country, in any spanish or
foreign language between 1st January 2001 to 30th
January 2002 will be able to enter.
·For the photography award, those which have been
published within the space of time mentioned above, or
collections of a minimum of three slides or photographs
unpublished in either case will be able to enter. (The
slides must be of minimum universal size and
photographs must be a minimum of 30x40 cm. without
passe-partout and/or support).
3.- ENTRY DATES. Entries must be made before the 30th
September 2002 to the Town Hall of Calpe, (at the
Municipal Tourist Office - Plaza del Mosquit s/n, 03710
Calpe) and handed in by the participator or
participators, or by anyone or entity with written
authorization from the participator.
All competing originals are to be accompanied by a card
indicating the full name and address of the author, as
well as a contact telephone number, fax and e-mail
address (where available).
4.- REQUIREMENTS. For the presentation of work,
candidates for the VTH INTERNATIONAL JOURNALIST AWARD
"PEÑÓN DE IFACH", must be aware of the following:
a.Candidatures for the printed report award: remit two
complete issues of the publication in which the article
or report appeared. b.Candidatures for the photography
and slide prozes: remit two copies of the publication
in which the competing images appeared. In the case of
unpublished originals, one photograph (including the
corresponding negatives) and a minimum of three copies
are to be submitted.
c.Candidatures for the radio and television award:
remit a recording of the presented report or
information exactly as broadcast, along with a
certificate from the corresponding radio station giving
proof of the date and time it was broadcast.

5.- AWARDS. The following awards are established:
a) BEST ARTICLE OR REPORT published in printed media in
any official spanish language will be awarded: 2.404 €.
b) BEST ARTICLE OR REPORT published in printed media in
any foreign language will be awarded: 2.4040 €.
c) BEST REPORT OR RADIO BROADCAST PROGRAMME will be
awarded: 2.404 €.
d) BEST REPORT OR TELEVISED PROGRAMME will be awarded:
2.404 €.
e) BEST PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION from just one
participator, published or unpublished will be awarded:
2.404 €.
f) BEST SLIDE COLLECTION from just one participator,
published or unpublished will be awarded: 2.404 €.
g) Among those prized, THE BEST ARTICLE OR REPORT will
be awarden the: "PEÑÓN DE IFACH '02 PRIZE" of 2.404 €,
to be added to the corresponding category prize.
6.- THE JURY. The Jury for the award of all these
prizes will meet in Calpe under the chairmanship of the
Mayor or his representative. It will consist of
professionals in the fields of information or tourism,
together with a member of the board of OMJET or his
representative.
The Jury will, if it think fit, withhold the award of
any of the designated prizes, in wich case the value of
the prize will be added to the prize fund for the
following year.
Notes:
A) No person related to employees of the organising
bodies and/or sponsors may enter this competition.
B) All the prizewinning originals will become the
property of Calpe Council, with complete freedom for
their publication or reproduction in the promotion of
tourism of the aforesaid municipality.
C) All submitted non prized material can be retrieved
in the contest offices by the authors or authorized
persosn in the three months following the decision of
the Jury. No material can be reclaimed after this
period.
D) By handing in their works for the contest the
participants accept the laid down in this document. The
interpretation of these rules is competence of the
selection committee.

And lastly something I found amusing the other day as I
was walking past our local branch of Banesto Bank. They
have a competition on at the moment for all their
customers who have what they call an "agricultural
account". There are 9 prizes to be won and all you need
do is put your details on an entry form and send it off
to Banesto Bank. What may you ask are the prizes? No
not a Caribbean Holiday, or a brand new car or even
1000 Euros but.....a tractor....
