1. NEW BUSINESSES

This month we welcome the following businesses to the Costablanca-Netguide.

i)	Restaurante Divino

Restaurante Divino is situated in Moraira between Mas y Mas and Champion
Supermarket. The restaurant has a relaxed ambience and is decorated with
a rustic feel. It also has a beautiful terrace with sensational views.

The food is traditional and classical and offers a set menu which is
excellent value and also has a superb a la carte menu which will leave
your taste buds spoilt for choice. Children are also catered for and
instead of the usual chicken nuggets or sausages the childrens menu offers
them something totally different.

glass, aluminium bevelled stained glass, engraved glass using a sandblasting

2.	What is a Rastro? And where will you find them?

Here on the Costa Blanca we have a wealth of "Rastros" or "Rastrillos".
These are not to be confused with the traditional markets which are fruit,
veg and new items from tshirts to ceramics etc.
A rastro is generally a cross between a flea market, a car boot sale and an
antique fair so expect to find anything from a rare table to a 2nd hand lilo!
Their popularity is reflected in the amount which are now held throughout
the Costa and how busy they are. Parking can be a nightmare!!

If you are a discerning collector of antiques, coins, stamps or even musical
instruments or just want to add that authentic "look" to your finca this is
the place to look and haggle! The vendors are a cosmopolitan group with
Spaniards, English, German, French, Peruvian and Moroccans.
At some of the Rastros you will also be entertained by live music from jazz
to ethnic Peruvian and the odd busker. So you can probably tell they
are fun places and a little different to your usual market.

With the very hot weather upon us it is good to find indoor places to go so why not try
the Museo de Cera (Waxwork Museum) in Benidorm. The most important works are Gandhi,
Picasso, Dali, Mona Lisa, Clint Eatwood and Linclon and there are various exhibitions held
throughout the year. The Museo de Cero can be found on the Avda. del Mediteráneo, 8- next
to the Iglesias del Carmen- Benidorm. Tel: 966 80 84 21 Fax: 966 80 84 21. Opening hours
for the Summer are 11h-13h everyday and in the Winter 10h-21h everyday. The entrance fees
are 700pts for adults and 500pts for children and OAP's.

*********Stop Press:**********
I met Hugh Stewart of Radio Lifestyle yesterday and he tells me that Lifestyle has ceased
to exist but Onda Cero International has taken its place.
By next month we will have details of the changes that have taken place and let you know
all about it. We will of course also be updating the Lifestyle listing in the Costa Blanca
Directory.

Landscapes of the Costa Blanca

www.costablanca-netguide.com/bac/lotcb.html

John Oldfield (Photographer), Christine Oldfield

Paperback - 136 pages (28 January, 1997)

Sunflower Books; ISBN: 1856910903

Book Description

The Costa Blanca is ideal for countryside exploration all year round. Travel only a short
distance inland, and the bustle of the resorts is left far behind. You find yourself
surrounded by market gardens, orchards and orange groves, while the dark rugged silhouettes
of the sierras beckon you close. Here you can put aside the stress and hassle of modern living.
Wild flowers from the humble daisy to the most exotic orchid abound; the air is filled with the
scent of fragrant herbs; birdsong drifts along on the breeze, and mountain peaks dominate the
skyline. The weather-beaten faces of villagers in the fields break into smiles as you pass by.
All these images combine to create an ambience you will find irresistible. The car tours lead
through fertile valleys smothered in blossom or sweet-scented fruit to delightful inland villages.
Windmills, waterfalls and 'snow wells' feature among the picnic settings. But the rugged
silhouettes of the area's many sierras dominate this landscape an irresistable attraction for
walkers.

"I am just back from a very good fortnight in Spain, much enhanced by a lot of use of your book.
Many thanks for all you put into it." (M.S., London)

"Without your excellent contribution to the Landscapes Series, walking in the hinterland of
the Costa Blanca would, for me, not have been possible. The quality of the printed volume is
also much appreciated, especially the string binding." (R.E., Sheffield)

While the best time for walking is March to May and September/October, regular visitors enjoy
walks throughout the winter as well. 5 car tours, 50 long and short walks, 32 picnic suggestions
Plans of Benidorm, Alicante, Denia plus fold-out touring map

ii) This months best CD from Amazon

Falla : Three-Cornered Hat & Love the Magician
www.costablanca-netguide.com/bac/tch.html
Composer: Manuel de Falla
Conductor: Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos
Performer: Maria Oran, Esperanza Fernández
Orchestra: Spanish National Orchestra

Classic FM's latest collaboration with record company BMG is this hot, Hispanic disc of two of Manuel
de Falla's best-loved scores, El Amor Brujo ("Love the Magician") and El Sombrero de Tres Picos
("The Three-Cornered Hat"). The artists are Spanish. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos conducts the Orquesta
Nacional de Espaüa, with the inspirational Flamenco singer Esperanza Fernandez as soloist in El Amor
Brujo. Her voice is proud, throaty and sensuous; her ornaments have a spicy, Islamic flavour in the
Song of Sorrowful Love. (Does she spit as she sings or is it just my imagination?) She makes the music
feel as if it has been composed around her. Even the Ritual Fire Dance, in which she takes no part,
burns more brightly for her magic. The soprano María Orán does not have the same impact in El Sombrero
though, of course, she has much less to sing. The jowly Burgos fires the orchestra like a dancing master.
The comedy comes to life under his baton. --Rick Jones
